who we are
Little Cool School is a mixed-age playschool in Crown Heights for friends aged 2 and up. We’re based in a bright, cheerful space in the garden level of a brownstone.
We already know that your child came into the world with an innate joy in learning and discovering. Our job is to encourage that love of learning, while providing an environment and activities that foster social and emotional growth, as his or her world grows bigger day by day. At Little Cool School, kids can be explorers and discoverers; build friendships and partnerships; make masterpieces and messes; have fun and be cool.

our philosophy
We’re inspired by many educational philosophies, from Reggio to Montessori with Waldorf in between, and our emergent curriculum encourages our friends to always ask questions and dig deeper. In this style of discovery, children can feel respected while they find out that questions lead to more (and bigger!) questions.
We believe discovery is most meaningful when kids are engaged and excited about a topic. This means that we develop our curriculum around what’s fascinating us right now – from transportation to tadpoles to T-Rex – and guide our friends to find the magic in learning that’s all around us.
Most of all, we are passionate about play! We believe in engaging, hands-on activities that help us discover new things about problem-solving, cooperating and communicating about ourselves and our world.

We offer flexible schedules in a classroom of 12 friends. We believe in:
Being Outside!
We play outside every day! We have adventures in our private, child-sized ‘forest’ - our gated community garden - three mornings a week for outdoor school. We love mud, nature, exploring, taking supported risks, and letting imaginations run wild out in the fresh air.
Doing It Ourselves!
Chores, daily responsibilities and purposeful work help our friends take ownership of their environment and feel capable and proud of their accomplishments.
Creativity!
Cutting, painting, sticking, drawing and sculpting help friends to express themselves, while dramatic play helps friends engage with and understand their world.
Moving!
We love to leap, spin, balance and climb, to help big, strong muscles grow bigger. We dance, stretch or do yoga, and play outside every day.
Stories!
We will always love the magic within the pages of a book, and we tailor our ever-changing bookshelves to supplement conversations we’re having in class. Like Roald Dahl said, “All you do is look, at a page in this book...No book ever ends, when it's full of your friends.”
Being Cool to our Environment!
We incorporate recycling and composting into our daily activities. We use carbon-neutral energy sources and sustainable resources, and – for friends that aren’t yet using the toilet – we’re cloth-diaper friendly.
Being Cool to Each Other!
We help friends learn positive interactions, use their words to describe their feelings and work together to build a happy community. In our mixed age group playschool, there are many chances for friends to learn from each other and solve problems together.

every day is flexible, with plenty of room for play, but a typical day usually includes:

5 Days Per Week
Full day (9 am - 4 pm): $2,200
Full day + early drop (8:30 am - 4 pm): $2,320
Full day + extended day (9 am - 6 pm): $2,480
Full day + early drop + extended day (8:30 am - 6pm): $2,600
Newly enrolled families pay a one-time registration fee of $150, and a refundable deposit equal to one month’s tuition

We’re in the sunny, cheerful garden apartment of a Brownstone at 596 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights. We’re close to the C, A, 2, 3, 4 and 5 lines and the B25, B48 and B49 buses.
